Hi, I'm Josh.
I have been a music educator for over 16 years in Geelong, Melbourne and the NT. I am the founder of Apollo Music Academy, a music school providing music tuition to several schools around Geelong and our studio located on the Bellarine Peninsula. As a passionate music teacher, I continue to keep my afternoons free to teach students personally in the Armstrong Creek Growth Area (the 3217 Community).

Being the Music Captain of Geelong College, achieving a Bachelor of Applied Music (Composition) and a Masters of Teaching (Primary), I tailor my lessons to provide opportunities for my students that I myself wished I had growing up.
Starting as a raw beginner, or with prior experience, these lessons consider the individual learning needs of each student. I pursue music of your interest and explore new musical realms, whilst additionally providing strengthening exercises, aural training and theory - all in the name of conditioning you toward becoming an achieved musician.
Private Lessons: Private 1-on-1 lessons are designed to cater directly for our students’ needs and learning styles. I solely focus on improving and developing my students’ skills whilst teaching learning songs, concepts, notation and exercises whilst building strong teacher-student relationships.

Group Classes:
Group classes range from 2-6 students. They are an engaging and much more collaborative way for students to learn music. Classes are designed for students to play together, helping develop rhythm, listening skills and musical confidence.
Students learn and explore concepts together and enjoy making music as an ensemble. It’s also a great option for beginners, offering a supportive and social introduction to learning an instrument.
Music Theory: From scratch or from an advanced level, we provide in-depth lessons covering music theory-based topics, and can work towards specific goals. These lessons can be used as assistance to VCE, University or exam studies.

Composition: In composition lessons, I provide techniques and tools that help create a unique piece of music.

I cater to your goals, such as song writing (with lyrics), solo instrumental pieces, orchestral works, soundtrack composing, and sound design.

Performance Opportunities: Each year, students are involved in an end-of-year concert, providing them the opportunity to play one or more songs that they have been working hard on.

Although no compulsory, performing develops confidence, stage presence, time-based goals, and an opportunity to celebrate achievements with other students.

Rockschool Method:
Applicable to all instruments, Rockschool series provides a clear
and engaging pathway for developing strong musical skills.
The books combine technique, rhythm, theory and repertoire in a structured way, helping students build confidence while steadily progressing.

With styles ranging from rock and pop to funk and contemporary music, students develop practical playing skills while learning music that feels modern, relevant and enjoyable to play.

KeyNotes:
Designed for raw beginners, KeyNotes is a world-renowned group piano program designed to help students develop strong musical foundations while playing together. Through rhythm activities, ensemble pieces and interactive learning, students build listening skills, coordination and confidence at the piano.
Exams: As part of the learning process, students are welcome to be involved in exams which take place yearly. With the help of their teachers, students can compile a repertoire from the Rockschool syllabus to perform and get graded by an examiner through AMEB.
